The Commission is committed to ensuring that its work is survivor-centred. We will do this by:
- Providing clear, accessible information to support informed choices. This includes information on how people can engage across the survey, the Survivor Engagement Programme and the Investigation. We will also explain how your information will be handled.
- Providing specialist support for survivors to participate in its processes. This will include:
- Phone and email support to answer questions about the role and remit of the Commission
- Support for individuals to make informed decisions about whether and how to engage with the Commission.
- Access to appropriate emotional and practical support as well as information and referrals to other services where needed.
- Providing support for those with additional needs to ensure that engagement is accessible and inclusive wherever possible. This could include, for example, Irish Sign Language interpretation, and flexible participation (online, in-person or written engagement) among other supports.
- Taking practical steps to mitigate the risks of retraumatisation.
- Taking a trauma-informed approach in all aspects of its work.
- Communicating regularly with survivors and other stakeholders on the progress of our work, through the website and other appropriate channels. This includes providing information to support participation at each stage.
